Patients who have benefited from the Kwara State Government’s free health care intervention program have praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s initiative to extend medical treatment to indigenes and residents of the state, saying they will always be thankful.

When the 8th cycle of the free medical and surgical outreach moved to Erin-Ile General Hospital to care for the locals, recipients in Oyun Local Government Area voiced the commendation.

The Kwara State Government funded a weekly free medical and surgical outreach program so that residents of Oyun Local Government and other Local Government Areas in the state could take advantage of the intervention program.

The turnout at today’s event was impressive as described by the head of the monitoring team from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Olabisi Oyeyipo.

The people of Oyun, through the programme, were availed the opportunity of benefiting from free medical consultation and distribution of free drugs for common ailments, and surgical services for common minor problems such as hernia, lipoma, hydrocoele and blinding eye disease, among others.

Free reading glasses were also distributed to some teachers and other beneficiaries that complained of difficulty in reading tiny prints.

In an interview with a few beneficiaries of the free health-care programme, Mr. Muhammad Abdullahi commended the Governor for deeming it necessary to address the plight of the indigent members of the community.

Another beneficiary, who prefers to remain anonymous, said “everything is not money, if you give me money to do this operation, I will spend it on something else. Imagine the cost of operation for almost 40 people that will be operated here today, I am happy that Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has taken care of my health, he deserves a reward from me and prayer for God to meet his needs also. I also thank those professional Doctors and nurses that are doing the work”.

In his response, the lead expert and Director, Medical Services and Training in the Ministry of health, Dr. Johnson Oyeniyi disclosed that the exercise was going on smoothly and prayed for sustained impact in the remaining Local Government Areas.

Also speaking, the Director of Primary Health Care, Oyun Local Government, Mrs. Nimata Titilayo Zubair praised the governor for his magnanimity and appreciated the medical team for the humanitarian services being rendered to the people.
