Hundreds of people including Ghana’s president are paying their last respects to Christian Atsu, who died in last month’s earthquake in Turkey.

Fidel Info reports that His funeral is being held outside State House in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

“In life I love you darling, in death I’ll do the same,” read the tearful tribute from the footballer’s widow, Marie-Claire Rupio.

She was overcome with emotion and handed her speech to Atsu’s sister to read.

“You did not go alone, for part of me went with you,” it continued. “Your smile, your love I see in our children’s smiles.”

Representatives of Ghana’s national team and Atsu’s Turkish club Hatayspor were also at the ceremony.

Atsu’s body was recovered a fortnight after the quake from the rubble of his apartment building.

It was returned to Ghana almost a month ago. He will be buried later in his home village in south-eastern Ghana.

Atsu, 31, spent most of his career playing in the English Premier League for clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton.

The Kwara State National/State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Ilorin, the State capital, on Saturday, nullified the election of the youngest lawmaker in the State Assembly, Miss Rukayat Shittu.

Miss Shittu, 26, contested and won the Owode-Onire constituency seat of Asa local government area of the state under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

However, her closest challenger and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 18 election, Abdullahi Yinusa Magaji, filed a petition before the Tribunal to challenge the APC candidate’s victory.

The Tribunal, in its lead judgement delivered by Justice Ademola Enikuomehin, ordered a rerun in five polling units of the constituency in order to determine the actual winner of the legislative seat.

“The petitioners failed in 12 among the contested polling units while five have been proved. The results so far released are hereby cancelled, and the election inconclusive.

“In sum, the petition succeeded in parts and in consequence, I hereby order a rerun of the election in the above polling units to be conducted within 90 days,” the Tribunal ruled

Joachim Anderson low strike increases pressure on Erik Ten Haag as Crystal Palace defeat Man Utd

Manchester United have lost four of their opening seven games of a Premier League season for the first time after Crystal Palace won 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Erik Ten Haag’s side had looked to have turned a corner with wins against Burnley and Palace in the Carabao Cup, but Joachim Andersen’s first-half strike turned the skies gloomy again for the United boss.

The response from United in attack was limited with Sam Johnstone largely untested in front of a disgruntled home crowd.

It means Palace are now above Manchester United in the Premier League, who have taken just nine points from their first seven games. Also, Palace boss Roy Hodgson has now become the first manager to go unbeaten in five consecutive away Premier League games at Old Trafford.

Up next for Manchester United is a Champions League group stage clash against Galatasaray on Tuesday and their next Premier League clash is against Brentford on Saturday October 7 at 3pm.
