Flood Prevention: Osun Govt.Commence Dregding Of Waterways And Improvement Of Hydraulic Structure in Osogbo

In a bid to avoid flooding and its damaging effects on residents, Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate dredging of water ways, rivers and streams to allow easy flow of water when it rains.

In another development, the Ministry of Works and Transport has commenced the improvement of hydraulic structures from Olosan bus stop – White Plain suit along Ogo Oluwa road in Osogbo to put a stop to flooding which wrecks havoc in the area every year.

Going round some flashepoints of flood across the State on a supervision of the dredging, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Engr. Basiru Bello said the Governor is determined to protect residents from flooding this year and beyond.

He said the Governor directed the Ministry of Works and Transport as well as the Flood Department of the Ministry of Environment to quickly look into it and save residents from the effect.

The Permanent Secretary further explained that as the rain began to come thick and fast, Governor Adeleke felt the need for government to quickly interven to save residents living around flood flashpoint areas from the possible loss of lives and properties to flood.

Engr. Bello added that the improvement of hydraulic structures from Olosan bus stop – White Plain suit along Ogo Oluwa road in the State capital became necessary because the road is always flooded when it rains, while appealing to residents and motorists to bear the discomfort while the job last.

He then warned residents of the State to desist from the habit of dumping refuse into drainages and other water ways, saying it will result to blockage which causes flooding whenever it rains.

While imploring resident to steer clear of water ways while erecting their buildings, the Permanent Secretary also urged people to build their houses according to standard to stand the test of flood even if it occurs.
