The Mayor of San Pedro Huamelula, a village in Southern Mexico, has married Alicia Adriana, a female crocodile.

The traditional wedding ceremony has been practised for over 230 years and has significant cultural importance.

The rite symbolises peace and unity between the Chontal and Huave indigenous villages in Southern Mexico.

The mayor, dressed as the Chontal monarch, arranged the marriage with the reptile, representing the adored “princess girl” of local tradition.

He reaffirmed his dedication and affection during the ceremony, emphasising the value of love in marriage.

“I accept responsibility because we care about one another. That is all that matters. A marriage cannot exist without love,” the mayor, Victor Hugo Sosa said
