“The Husband I Knew Is No More” – Joke Silva Speaks On Marital Struggles With Olu Jacob

Nollywood actress, Joke Silva has opened up about the challenges she and her husband, Olu Jacobs, are facing in their marriage.

During a recent interview with media personality and actress Nancy Isime, Joke Silva discussed how her husband’s battle with dementia has impacted their relationship.

The actress spoke fondly of Olu Jacobs, highlighting his exceptional qualities as a father and husband who always fulfilled his responsibilities.

She reminisced about their early years together, emphasizing the deep bond they shared and how he was not just her spouse but also her best friend.

However, as Jacob’s dementia progressed, Silva admitted that their relationship underwent significant changes and the reality of the situation was difficult, as her husband, whom she knew so well, was often no longer fully present.

“It has not been easy… There was a point of acceptance for me that everything happening is reality and it is like the person I married, 80 percent of the time is no longer there.”

“But the thing is this when he was there, he was an incredible father to his children and an amazing husband, he was practically my best friend,” she said.

Despite these challenges, Silva expressed her enduring love for Jacobs. She acknowledged that the love and affection they once shared may not be as prominent, but her feelings for him remain steadfast.

“The husband I knew is no more and there for me, but this man that is here is someone I still love,” Joke Silva said.

With a marriage spanning 37 years and a total of 42 years together, including five years of dating prior to marriage, Silva recognized the initial struggles they faced in their early years.

She has come to terms with their new reality and now sees herself as a caregiver, caring for her husband like a father, rather than in a traditional husband-wife dynamic

The movie star added that if late Mohbad didn’t doubt the child’s paternity, the public should not think otherwise but should focus on getting justice for him.

She wrote: “Asking a mourning widow to submit her son for a DNA test is pure evil. Haba! She just lost a husband, lost a father to her child, lost her helper and protector of 10 years! Let her mourn in peace.

“If you can’t support her don’t add to her misery! Small money don enter for DNA tests. Just because she isn’t rich, if her husband didn’t doubt the paternity, who are we to think otherwise?

“Abeg make una no let the dead pare for una o. Don’t frustrate his family. Let’s focus on getting justice for Mohbad.”
