BREAKING: Tribunal sacks Kano governor, declares APC winner

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kano has declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the Kano governorship election.

The tribunal gave the final judgement after cancelling some votes recorded by the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, candidate and Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey said the margin of votes scored by the NNPP was not enough to give Governor Yusuf victory.

It said some of the votes credited to Yusus were invalid.

November 11: Shettima Flags Off APC Campaign In Kogi

Vice President, Kashim Shettima on Sunday flagged off the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the governorship election in Kogi State ahead of November 11.

Naija News reports that Kashim Shettima, who represented his principal, President Bola Tinubu, flagged off the campaign at a mega rally held at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

At the rally, the VP appealed to the state’s people to vote for the APC candidate, Ahmed Ododo.

He said the election of Ododo would enhance the revival process of the Ajaokuta Steel Company as it was essential to the president.

He said, “This is the reason the President has created a separate ministry and even decided to appoint Kogi-born Alhaji Shuaib Audu as the Minister of Steel Development to hasten the process of reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Company and other steel companies in the country.

“This is why you must vote for the APC for continuity so that the dream of reviving our steel industry would be a reality. Ajaokuta, when fully operational, will guarantee over 500,000 jobs and over 300,000 employment opportunities for our teaming youths,”

Ododo, during his remark, said, “Kogi should not be allowed to be governed by selfish individuals, who are coming out to divide the state and hide under ethnic agenda.”

2023 Election: List Of State Governors Tribunal May Sack

Governorship elections were held in 28 states of the federation during the 2023 general elections held on March 18.

Following the declaration of results and winners by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other contestants and parties aggrieved by the declared results have gone to the tribunal to seek redress.

Naija News understands the various state governorship election tribunals have given their verdicts in 20 out of the 28 states where elections were held.

Out of the 20 where verdicts have been given so far, the electoral victory of 18 governors have been affirmed, while the tribunals have sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State and Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.

However, the fate of the other eight must be declared before the end of October as according to the 2022 electoral act, tribunals are mandated to hear and give their verdicts within 180 days.

The tribunal would either sack them from office or affirm their victories.

Below is the list of Governors and States awaiting the verdict of the tribunal on their election victories.

1. Governor Alex Otti of Abia State

The Abia State governorship election petition tribunal has fixed Friday, October 6, to deliver its verdict on the fate of the Labour Party governor based on the petition against him by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Ikechi Emenike.

2. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State

Umar Alkali of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is seeking a court order for a fresh election in the state over omitting their names on the ballot papers during the poll.

3. Governor Umar Namadi Danmodi of Jigawa State

4. Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State

5. Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State

6. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State

7. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State

8. Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State

Certificate Forgers Can’t Do Things Right – Peter Obi insist

Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election has slammed certificate forgers.

This followed the battle between Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu over accusations of forging a certificate.

Reacting, Obi said some Nigerians should not expect people who forged their certificates to do things right.

Obi who spoke on Monday while featuring on the Arise TV program, explained that leaders who manipulated their academic records via certificate forgery before their election into offices are living a falsified life.

The former Anambra governor who opined that academic qualifications should not be criteria for leadership positions, however, said leaders should be honest about their status
