The Kaduna Police Command has arrested a kidnapper and rescued the captive whom he and his gangs kidnapped in Abuja.
It was reported that he was caught while moving the victim to Kano State. Other kidnappers are at large.
The police recovered the captive’s vehicle, and the kidnappers were dislodged of their operational firearms, ASP Mansir Hassan, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, revealed in a statement Thursday.
It was reported that on January 18, 2024, operatives attached to Kawo Divisional Headquarters, Kaduna, got a distress call of a kidnapping incident from Abuja indicating the kidnappers and their captives were moving through Kaduna.
The operatives, around 0010 hours, stopped a grey Toyota Hilux van with registration number Abuja RBC 90 DC, conveying four passengers, the driver inclusive, suspected to be the vehicle carrying the abductors and their captive.
He said, “On sensing danger and to escape, one of the kidnappers fired at the policemen, and they responded accordingly. In the resulting gun duel, the victim, a certain Segun Akinyemi of block 10, Flat 2 FCDA Quarters, Area 3, Garki, Abuja, was rescued, and one of the kidnappers, a 28-year-old Chinaza Philip of Life Camp Abuja, was arrested.”
Hassan said an investigation showed that the victim was kidnapped on January 17, 2024, by the abductors while he was leaving his home in Abuja.
He said those at large among the kidnappers were Chidibere Nwodibo, Auwal, and the leader of the gang, whose identity has not been confirmed yet.
