Some residents of the capital of Niger State, Minna, on Monday morning, blocked the main roads in the city in protest of the high cost of living.
Young people and women were seen among the demonstrators singing protest songs while police officers and other security personnel observed the situation.
The demonstrators said that the hike in food prices and the inadequate response from the government made them block the main roads to draw the attention of the concerned authorities.
Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba of Niger, who addressed the protesters, said that the administration understood the suffering and difficulties that families were going through at the moment.
Garba added that the government was working towards reducing the cost of living and the effect of the petrol subsidy removal.
