However, Navalny’s spokesman, Kira Yarmysh, in a post on X, said that, “We have no confirmation of this yet.

He added, “Alexei’s lawyer is currently on his way to Kharp. As soon as we have some information, we will report on it.”

Navalny was held in one of the country’s toughest prisons, IK-3 penal colony, also called “Polar Wolf,” in Kharp in northern Russia.

Kamala Harris, the United States Vice President, Friday said that reports of Navalny’s death are “terrible news, which we are working to confirm.”

“My prayers are with his family, including his wife, Yulia, who is with us today. And if confirmed, this would be a further sign of Putin’s brutality,” she continued. “Whatever story they tell, let us be clear: Russia is responsible. And we will have more to say on this later.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Friday, said that Navalny’s “death in a Russian prison and the fixation and fear of one man only underscores the weakness and rot at the heart of the system that Putin has built.”

“Russia is responsible for this, “Blinken added. “We’ll be talking to many other countries concerned about Alexei Navalny, especially if these reports bear out to be true.”

President Biden, after meeting with Putin in 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland, was asked about what would happen if Navalny died in Russian custody; he said, “I made it clear to him that I believe the consequences of that would be devastating for Russia.”
