The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been lauded for investigating the alleged squandering of public funds by the former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA), in a statement by Mr. Ibrahim Dan-Musa, its spokesperson, and forwarded to journalists in Abuja, said that the anti-graft agency is performing an excellent service to the nation by pursuing the perpetrators of national economic sabotage.

Mr. Ibrahim expressed hope that those involved in diverting public funds to finance elections would be brought to book to deter others in the future.

The group posited that the anti-corruption stance of the present government would ensure that such treachery and squandering of funds meant for the country’s development by politicians in power corridors would not recur.

The group urged the anti-graft agency to leave no stone unturned in discouraging and ensuring that those in the custody of public funds do not dip their hands into the till for personal gain.

“As Northerners, we commend the EFCC for taking necessary steps in accordance with the law to ensure that Yahaya Bello faces justice.

“We are prepared to mobilise millions across the northern states in a peaceful protest in support of the EFCC.

“We call on the EFCC not to be discouraged by sponsored campaigns of calumny by hired protesters who are jobless and some unprofessional analysts who are only capitalising on this situation to make more money from Yahaya Bello, who is spending looted resources from Kogi.“
