The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed a failed abduction attempt by gunmen on Wednesday night on Alhaji Umar Musa, the Paramount Ruler of Ninzo Chiefdom.

The chiefdom is in the Kaduna Sanga Local Government Area.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson of the command, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria that “the whereabouts of the chief’s wife was still unknown.”

He said that security operatives had since been deployed to the forests around Sanga in search of the wife.

The Ninzo Development Association, in a statement signed by Prof. Moses Audi and Silas Anche, its President and Secretary, respectively, “condemned the planned kidnap of their traditional ruler that led to the disappearance of his wife.”

However, the statement called for calm to allow the government to live up to its responsibility.

In May 2023, this medium reported the invasion of the palace of the Emir of Kagarko, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, in Southern Kaduna, abducting nine of his children in the town.

Among those kidnapped by the terrorists were his grandchildren and three others.

In 2021, gunmen also kidnapped Gyet Maude, the traditional ruler of the Jaba chiefdom in the Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Emir Abubakar, who was said to be over 80 years old, was reported to have been kidnapped while on his farm located in Gitata, a border town between Kaduna and Nasarawa states – with the kidnappers demanding N100m ransom before his eventual release two days after. (NAN)
