The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared nomination forms free for female aspirants in the forthcoming general elections in 2023.

Addressing a press conference Thursday at party’s national secretariat, newly elected national women leader, Betty Edu, said the decision was reached to encourage all female aspirants against all kinds of limitations.

This was revealed on Wednesday after their first NWC session.

Elated by this development, the National Women Leader of APC, Hon Betta Edu who championed the course for the women, expressed satisfaction and stated that APC has taken bold steps to mainstream women and remove barriers to their seeking elective offices. Female aspirants would no longer complain of funds to purchase nomination forms, it’s free!

According to her, it had always been on her programme to ensure and facilitate increased women participations in the electoral process, adding that even though funding sets some women back, this new initiative by the party which is first of its kind by a political party would endear more women to the APC fold.

Dr Edu, who was a former Commissioner for Health in Cross River State, thanked the Party Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and other executives for making her dream a reality.

The statement affirming this decision reads in parts: “Sen Abdullahi Adamu led National working Committee which has Dr Betta Edu as the National Women Leader have broken record; approves free nomination forms for all Female Aspirants contesting under the platform of the APC. Terms and conditions will apply”.

“This, no doubt would awaken the consciousness of females in the party and encourage more women to come out and vie for more political positions” she said.
