The 2023 Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi has said he, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and other relevant stakeholders can resolve the leadership crisis of the party.

Obi said the party’s National Executive Council, NEC, he and Otti will meet in line with LP’s constitution to decide on the party’s leadership crisis.

He also stated that the decision to have LP’s National Chairman, Julius Abure retained is one that stakeholders will have to decide on.

Obi said this while fielding questions from reporters after he addressed the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Transition Committee, headed by former President of the NLC, Abdulawaheed Omar.

The NLC Transition Committee was at the Labour Party to take over the party secretariat but was denied access, as Peter Obi and other stakeholders were already holding a peace meeting there.

According to him, the leadership challenge in the Labour Party can be resolved by the stakeholders.

He said: “When we come together as a family, we will make decisions as a family. The party has a constitution and a National Executive Council, and everyone, including myself and Governor Otti, will be there to decide.

“We cannot say someone is at the gate and tell your wife to leave; everyone must be present before dissolving a marriage.

“The protest is good because it shows that everyone wants us to organize ourselves better. They are part of the family, and in a family, people agitate and misunderstandings are part of the living process.”
