The Department of State Services (DSS) yesterday, has failed to comment on reports that a suspected Boko Haram commander had been detained in Ogun State.

When The Nation correspondent called Dr. Peter Afunnaya, a spokesman for the DSS, about the matter, he stated that he had no reaction.

The Ogun State Police Command similarly denied knowing of any such arrest in the state.

DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, a spokesman for the command, claimed to have received multiple calls on the matter but said that the police were unaware of the arrest.

A private radio station in Abeokuta, the state capital, was said to have first reported the news of the suspect’s arrest at his hideout at Ijaye, Abeokuta.

It was alleged that the suspect fled from Katsina State and took up a job as a security man to enable him coordinate terror attacks and kidnappings.

The suspect, who was reportedly armed, was said to have resisted arrest but was overpowered by the security operatives who took him by surprise.

Also, police in Kebbi described as fake a viral intelligence report suggesting that terrorists were moving into Kwara State through Kamba route.

The leaked report was among those that went viral in the wake of sustained attacks in some major cities and alleged plan by the criminals to unleash mayhem in the southern part of the country.

Reacting to the report, police spokesman, SP Nafiyu Abubakar, said it was fake, misleading, mischievous and a calculated attempt by some unpatriotic individuals to instil fear and divert the command’s attention.

“In view of the foregoing, the Ag. Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, DCP Maiyaki Baba, calls on the people of Kebbi State to disregard such fake intelligence report and go about their lawful businesses, as the command under his watch will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the protection of lives and property.

The Ag. CP further assures the good people of Kebbi State that, the State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies have emplaced adequate security measures, not only in Kamba, but throughout the state, with the aim of forestalling any unforeseen circumstances.

“Members of the public are enjoined to be security conscious and report any suspicious person(s) to the nearest police station,” he said.
