The former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has said the G5 group from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will support President Bola Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Ortom said this on Sunday at a luncheon organised by Nyesom Wike, the ex-governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Present at the luncheon were Ortom and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, who is also a member of the G5 group.

The G5 group consists of five governors from the PDP, and they were against Atiku Abubakar being the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 presidential election.

The five governors supported Tinubu, a southern candidate.

Members of the G5 group are Wike, Ortom, Ugwuanyi, Seyi Makinde, and Okezie Ikpeazu.

Aside from Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who is serving his second term, the remaining four members had completed their eight years as governors as of May 2023.

Addressing the people present, Ortom said the G5 group did not regret backing Tinubu in the last presidential election, assuring that members of the group will again back the President in the 2027 presidential election.

“Our leader, Nyesom Wike, has already made a declaration that in 2027, we are supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We have nowhere to go because that is what Nigerians believe.

“Even the past administration that took Nigeria from top to bottom, we allowed them to work for eight years.

“So, why can’t a seasoned administrator in the person President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rule us for eight years,” he said.
