Osun Roundtable Discussion: OSHA Speaker, PPRO, NYCN chairman, others advocate for free criminal society

The 2024 round table discussion organised by the Mass Communication department of Fountain University had important stakeholders in attendance, the event which took place at Etiosa lecture theatre of Fountain University had important dignitaries and stakeholders present among which are the speaker Osun State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun ably represented by Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi (IREKANDU).

Others at the events include the Police Public Relations Officer Mrs Yemisi Opalola, the Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State chapter Com. Ajala Adetunji David, the dean Postgraduate Studies of Fountain University Prof Abdulateef Usman, NYSC representative, ICPC boss among others.

The core issue bordering on Youth, Criminality and development were critically discussed

The Keynote Speaker of the Occasion Rt Hon. Adewale Egbedun who was ably represented by Hon Adewumi Adeyemi established myriads of issue facing the youths among which are lack of access to quality education, failed hope, lack of social guidance, unemployment amongst others. However, he provided solutions that can aid development.

In the remark of the police public relations officer, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, she reiterated on the decay in the family system and series of parental challenges that are causing crime in the society. Much more importantly, the quest for money which has contributed greatly to the level of criminality in the society among other issues was discussed.

She said further that “Police remain your best friend, if you disagree then you are saying thief, criminal, thug and the likes is your friend”

The provost of the post graduate studies Prof Abdulateef Usman reintegrated on the values of the youth that has diminished and offered solutions.

On his part, the Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN – Osun State Chapter Com. Ajala Adetunji David established the fact that criminality is a function of lost hope, lack of justice, economic challenges, unplanned development, peer pressure among others.

He further encouraged the youth not to allow the circumstances to lead them to crime.

The Keynote Speaker established that the issue of criminality, youth and development required a multidimensional approach and every cluster in the society has a shared responsibility

The moderator, Dr Rasheed Adebiyi of the Mass Communication department of Fountain University appreciated the stakeholders for the thought provoking conversation.
