The fire outbreak on Sunday evening burnt down part of the multi-million-naira building belonging to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, the former Kano State governor, in Kano.

The inferno mainly affected the apartment of Halima Shekarau, his third wife.

The fire, suspected to have started in the kitchen of the house, could not be immediately ascertained as to its cause.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the media adviser to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Dr Sule Ya’u Sule, stated that the fire started on Sunday evening in the inner kitchen of the house, situated on the ground floor of the mansion.

He said, “We thank God the fire only affected one of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s living rooms, and already men of the State Fire Service had successfully put out the fire.”

Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the spokesperson of the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident when contacted.

However, he disclosed that he would not comment on the cause of the fire for now as they are still managing the situation.

He added, “We are still at the house, and you know I cannot comment on anything now because we are still trying to make sure that the fire didn’t spread to other places.”
