The Bauchi State Police Command has declared controversial Islamic cleric, Dr Idris Abdul’azeez wanted for alleged ‘Contempt of Court.’

The Police in a Special Gazette Bulletin issued by the order of the Inspector-General of Police on Thursday, urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the 63-year-old cleric to report to the State Police Command or any nearest Police station.

The Police described Abdul’azeez as being dark in complexion and of slim build, with a diamond-shaped face, brown eyes, and grey hair. They reported that he was last seen at Dutsen Tanshi in Bauchi State.

The notice added that a “handsome reward” awaits any person(s) with information leading to Dutsen Tanshi’s arrest.

Recall that the Upper Shari’a court in Bauchi had issued an arrest warrant for the Chief Imam following his refusal to appear before the court to continue his trial.

FIDELINFO reports that Abdul’aziz is standing trial before the court on offences bordering on alleged incitement of public disturbance of peace and blasphemy.

The cleric was accused of uttering blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) and some notable Dariqa clerics in one of his Ramadan Tafsir sessions
