BREAKING: Appeal Court Sets Date to deliver Judgement on Kano Guber Election Dispute

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has scheduled judgment for tomorrow, Friday, November 17, 2023, in the ongoing governorship election dispute between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In anticipation of the verdict, security has been tightened across Kano State.

The Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumelon, on Wednesday addressed newsmen, assuring the public that adequate security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and order in the state.

“After the outcome of the forthcoming Kano Governorship Appeal Court judgment, the residents have every right to express their feelings,” Gumelon stated, “but that should be done in their respective homes.”

Recall that a three-man panel of judges of the Election Petition Tribunal in Kano led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay had sacked the Kano Governor Yusuf on September 20, 2023, by declaring 165,663 of his votes invalid because they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

His votes were thereafter calculated to be 853,939, while those of Nasir Ganuwa, his main rival in the All Progressives Congress (APC), stood at 890,705.

In reaction, he headed to the Appeal Court Yusuf, describing the judgement as “unfair” and “a miscarriage of justice”.
