The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has cautioned former state Governor Rauf Aregbesola to put an end to his hide and seek game with the party as his negative role towards the plight of the party during the last series of elections in the state will remain his indelible albatross throughout his political journey of life.

The Osun State chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, today stated that the reason for the ranting of Mr Aregbesola over the party and the leader of the party, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, is only face-saving which does not, in any way, hold water.

According to Lawal: “Whoever is targeting an unmerited inheritance would come up with phoney stories.

“If it is true that Mr Rauf Aregbesola actually stated what was credited to him at the end of the year party of his renegade supporters in Ilesa, it is quite unfortunate. What we can only say is that it is an impossible utopia for a leopard to change its colour.

“Rauf can never change as what is in the blood can not be out of the flesh. Who between Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and the ever cantankerous and garrullous Aregbesola is a man of peace? The answer is obvious.

“Was it Oyetola who was instrumental to the 30-month half salaries owed by the Aregbesola administration? Was it Oyetola who prevailed on Aregbesola to make an obnoxious consideration not to appoint those who assisted him to reclaim his victory by unilaterally outlawing anyone who was over 50 years old not to be appointed into his cabinet except the Attorney-General of the state, the Right Honourable Speaker of the House of Assembly, Barr Wale Afolabi?

“Was it Oyetola who put pressure on Aregbesola to insist that all schools in Osun wear the same uniform? Was it Oyetola who directed Aregbesola to change the names of all the government schools against the wish of the people of the communities where the schools are situated?

“Was it Oyetola who told Aregbesola to be an odd man out in Nigeria by renaming Osun State, State of Osun, which is against the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?

“We are equally aware that it wasn’t Oyetola who pressurized Aregbesola to come up with a different school curriculum for both primary and secondary schools in the state.

“The excuses of Aregbesola for not coming for campaigns are misplaced, afterthought and should be disregarded as there is nothing new that the former Osun State governor could do to the APC that could be strange as it is on record that Aregbesola and his cohorts were active partakers in pulling down the political party that had made him a commissioner for eight years in Lagos; Osun State governor for eight years and a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for four years.

“The development only portrayed the Ijesa-born former governor as a sadist and an ingrate who wittingly removed the metaphorical rope through which he got to the top in order to deny others from getting to the top.

“Aregbesola should know that history will not forget a king whose reign is peaceful and the one whose reign is crisis-ridden.

“A wicked man knows he is wicked but only waiting for who will tell him that he is. Aregbesola should know that it was his misgovernance with impunity in Osun State that contributed to the waning fortune of the APC in 2018 and 2022.

‘Infact, as at that time, his name had become a political pariah. The confirmation of the Ataoja of Osogbo that Aregbesola and his cohorts contributed to the installation of the PDP government in Osun State is not new as it is a testimony to the fact that Aregbesola is only an APC chieftain during the day and a PDP member in the night.

“The man who lied that he begged Oyetola for three years should be asked when the three years began counting: was it before he unleashed TOP on Oyetola or after it? He is seeking political relevance but we will not be distracted by his antics”, the state APC chairman asked rhetorically.
