Gunmen kill Kwara monarch, kidnap wife, two others

Gunmen have reportedly killed the Olukoro of Koro, HRH retd General Segun Aremu, in Ekiti Local Government of Kwara State.

The monarch was reportedly shot dead in his palace on Thursday night by unknown gunmen, who also kidnapped his wife and two others.

The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, condemned the development and said it was “reckless, shocking, and abominable.”

The governor also charged the security agencies to go after the perpetrators of the evil and free the late monarch’s wife and two others abducted.

The statement reads, “We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity.”

Governor Abdulrazaq also commiserated with the people of Koro.

He added, “My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”

Between January and February 2024, three monarchs were killed by unknown gunmen across the country. Two were from Ekiti, while one was from Kwara State.
