Man arrested over alleged murder of 20-year-old girlfriend in Osun

A 29-year-old man identified as Jamiu Salihu, aged 29, has been arrested by the Osun State Police Command in connection with the death of Temitope Elemide, his 20-year-old alleged girlfriend.

Elemide was said to have been raped and stabbed to death on Sunday at her family residence in the Bosero community, Olodo, in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.

According to a source who pleaded anonymity while speaking to PUNCH Metro, said, “This ugly incident occurred on Sunday when some hoodlums stormed the residence of this girl, raped her and smashed her head.

“These hoodlums took advantage of the fact that she was the only one at home to carry out the heinous act.”

SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday.

Odutola said the incident, which was reported to the police on Sunday, was a murder case.

She said, “There was a suspected murder report on February 25 from Odeda that they met a lifeless body of Elemide inside the room, stabbed with a knife on her head and body.

“There is one Jamiu Salihu, 29 years old boyfriend, who is suspected to have committed the heinous crime. He was seen coming out from the bush on the said day of the crime.”

She said the police received one knife, two iron rods and an android Tecno phone as exhibits from the suspect.

Odutola also said that the body of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue.
