Bandits who abducted 16 residents of Gonin Gora area of Kaduna metropolis have reportedly revealed that they demanded N40 trillion ransom for their release in a bid to end the hardship in their communities.

Recall that John Yusuf, a community leader of the area, disclosed in a telephone interview that the bandits called and asked for N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans and 150 brand new motorcycles for the release of the victims.

“The bandits have contacted us. They are demanding for N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans and 150 motorcycles for the release of 16 people they are holding captive.

“Where are we going to get this kind of money! Even if we sell the entire community, we cannot raise N40 trillion. Even Nigeria as a country has never made a budget of N40 trillion,” Yusuf said.

“The abductions happened twice within four days interval,” he said.

According to him, “During the first attack three people were kidnapped while in the second attack 13 people were abducted bringing the total number of people being held captive to 16.”

However, in another development on Friday, MegaNews reported that the bandits contacted the community again and said part of the N40 trillion ransom will be used to empower the poor and take care of the needy in the community.

The revelation has stirred mixed reactions from Nigerians who aired their respective opinions online.

A few days ago, bandits holding 287 school children captive in Kaduna issued a chilling ultimatum, threatening to execute their hostages if a ₦1 billion ransom is not paid within 20 days.

This drastic action has heightened fears for the safety of the abducted students and plunged families and the community into despair
