Police hunt abductors of Akwa Ibom monarch

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, on Sunday, May 13, 2024, said it had launched a search for the kidnappers of the paramount ruler of Mbo Local Government Area in the state, Ogwong Abang.

Yet-to-identified gunmen abducted the traditional ruler in his palace in the Ebughu community on Saturday

ASP Timfon John, the command’s Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident while speaking with our correspondent on Sunday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, said that the command was working round the clock to ensure an unconditional and timely release of the monarch.

The PPRO, “We received the information yesterday (Saturday), and the police are working round the clock already to ensure that the monarch regains freedom.”

PUNCH gathered that the monarch was abducted at 9 pm, and the kidnapping came on the heels of doctors in the state withdrawing their services in solidarity with the abduction of their colleague, Dr. John Esu, in the Oron community, who has been languishing in captivity for over 15 days.
